Shortlisted - Mikhak Mirmahmoudi

We would like to congratulate our assistant, Mikhak Mirmahmoudi on being shortlisted for the Saatchi Gallery & Channel 4's "4 New Sensations." This follows her recent graduation from Newcastle Universities Fine Art Dept. with a 1st & acceptance into the Northern Print Biennale - 2009 Print Awards.

"4 New Sensations was launched in 2007 by Channel 4 and The Saatchi Gallery to find the most imaginative and talented artists graduating in the UK and to support students leaving art college. In 2007 and 2008 shortlisted students have sold their work and been offered exhibitions as a result of the competition.

This year's judges are: artist Gavin Turk; Ralph Rugoff, director of the Hayward Gallery, London; critic Louisa Buck; and Alison Jacques, owner of Alison Jacques Gallery in London.

An exhibition of the 20 shortlisted graduates chosen by the judges will take place in London during Frieze Week in October 2009 at the A Foundation at the Rochelle School in Shoreditch..." Click to read more >>

Tereza Buskova: In the Independent today

Here is what was in the Independent Newspaper today:

Plenty of smashing new talent in store

Some of the art world's biggest names have nominated their favourite rising stars for an exhibition at Selfridges. They tell Charlotte Cripps why they chose them.

Anita Zabludowicz

Collector and Founder of Gallery 176

RISING STAR: Tereza Buskova

"Fate brought Tereza Buskova to me. Our curator at 176, Elizabeth Neilson, saw her graduation show at the Royal College of Art in 2007 and loved her work. Then Chris Shaw, an old friend of mine from Newcastle, sent me a link to it. She does not produce masses so we were lucky enough to start working with her quite quickly. Her work is like nothing you have seen before. She works in a very intuitive and unique way, making films, mesmerising constructions built upon her experiences of her Czech heritage, which have an ethereal, timeless quality. They seem to have been made somewhere between the 1920s and 2100. They're essentially documented improvisations between herself and actors, dancers and performers whom she dresses in the most stunning costumes based on traditional Czech dress. The result is hard to pin down and utterly captivating."
